Classical Conversations Cycle 2 Resources : Half a Hundred Acre Wood (1)

Welcome to our on-line resources for Classical Conversations Cycle 2, a place to find supplemental crafts, worksheets, videos, and other on-line resources corresponding with the Foundations memory work. This portion of our website was built over several years, and we continue to update and maintain it for the sake of helping families who use Classical Conversations. We offer these lists as a quick reference for those who wish to easily find such resources.

As an example of how to use these resources, download this Cycle 1 sample activity plan, or refer to our past personal curriculum & school schedules (click here).

In past years, our family has used an approach similar to that shown in the above sample activity plan but eventually opted for a more complete learning experience using our reading plans along with activities to encourage science exploration and art/music study in our home. Please note that you do not need to match up your reading selections with what is taught in Classical Conversations. In fact, it’s better to read history chronologically (and science within context) and simply allow the memory pegs to work as they come up in whatever you are reading, whenever you are reading it.

For a reading/curriculum plan that overlaps much of the memory work studied during Cycle 2 but with an emphasis on the Great Commission along with an integrated study of world history/geography, science, and fine arts, check out our Mission: Faith Forgers Curriculum Plan.

Note: Although Mission: Faith Forgers is not directly correlated to the memory work, it includes a more complete study of astronomy, physical science, and history. The books selected for this reading plan were chosen as long-term resources for students to use when they embark on research and world geography memorization in grades 7+. This study has been designed to be used independently of Classical Conversations®. For families who use Classical Conversations®, the readings assigned in the Mission: Faith Forgers study overlap much of the memory work studied during Cycle 2 but is not correlated week by week. This provides an opportunity for ongoing review and integration of the memory work throughout the year.

Copyright note: If you wish to share our work with others, we would be honored! Please provide a link to the respective page of whatever you are sharing. Our family invests many hours into creating resource lists and files to share with others. Please do not copy and re-post these lists (or our personal creations) on other webpages. By using this website, you agree not to modify our files/lists and/or upload them to other websites (including Facebook and email). Our pages have been updated so that they are helpful to folks who have either Foundations Guide 4th or 5th edition. You are an awesome mom, being so dedicated to your children! Thanks for all the CC materials, and also showing a new homeschool mom how it can be done.

I just want to say thank you so much for sharing your talents, knowledge, effort and love in teaching the children and helping parents to do homeschooling. Unfortunately, we don't have CC here in my city yet. I already spoke to the director in this area about when there will be a CC in my area, she said not yet. I been using the CC since Jan. 2013 and my children are learning and me too. I am a working Mom I have daycare in my home and home schooling my children. Every time I go to your blog is always answer prayer that I'm learning something what I can teach to my children. Again thank you

I am so glad you are homeschooling even in the midst of your busy schedule! From one mom of future heroes to another, thank you!

      With blessings,
      Brandy

Hi, so thankful to have found your site today!! What a huge blessing, encouragement, and HELP!! Praising and thanking God for your schedules and literature correlations and Story of the World correlation… Thank you for all your hard work and effort and generosity! I have a question regarding where you find your History activities (i.e. Medieval Dinner, Da Vinci Invention, Duct Tape Shield…). Also, is there a search button somewhere on your site to easily type in key words to find related posts or information? Thank you!
    blessings, kcy

Thanks for your feedback! I have not had the chance to go back through to work in the details for our planner pages. Some of the references to project ideas have links, but some of the ideas are taken from books that we own (Amazing Inventions by Leonardo Da Vinci, for example). My hope is that I will be able to return to the planner pages for those who need them, but our family is not going to be very rigid in our projects for the coming school year. Our preference is to complete projects only if we've done the scheduled amount of reading, copy work, etc.

For some reason Blogger's search button is not working across the blogosphere right now. I will see if I can come up with a quick-fix solution for that, but if you are looking for something in particular, please let me know by leaving a comment or email me at brandyferrell@yahoo.com. Most of our Cycle 2 posts are accessible by the Cycle 2 Posts button above (or from the list of links below that). Thanks!

p.s. I also appreciate that I read that you tie in Mystery of History, too! I haven't yet seen it mentioned in your schedules, but I think you mentioned it as one of your resources. Thank you!

    • Classical Conversations Cycle 2 Resources : Half a Hundred Acre Wood (53)Brandy Ferrell says

We have used Mystery of History before, but for Cycle 2 and 3, there are no history correlations for our memory work, as Mystery of History Vol 4 is still in the making. So… we will not be using Mystery of History for the coming school year. (You can see the MOH correlation for Cycle 2 on this post: http://www.halfahundredacrewood.com/2013/03/cycle-2-planner-story-of-world-reading.html, which shows that after Week 11, MOH no longer has readings related to our memory work.)

Hi! I just want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your blog. It has been a sanity-saving resource for me as I have been preparing to head into my third year of homeschooling and my first year doing CC. I am in Canada without a CC group nearby, so blogs like yours serve as my CC community. I decided to switch to CC fairly recently and I wasn't sure how I was going to pull everything together in time to start the school year with some semblance of an organized plan, but you have been kind enough to share your hard work with others so that people like me can enjoy a little bit of stress relief! Thank you so much, and may the Lord continue to bless you as you honour Him in every endeavour.

Brandy, last Saturday I attended Tutor Training and your blog was mentioned several times through out the day. You are CC Famous! ;o) I also want to say that your desire for integrity in honoring the CC curriculum and the company as a whole is very apparent. Thank you for being willing to make these resources available even when you are having eye problems or trying to navigate the copyright/classroom guidelines waters. We greatly appreciate the hard work and time you put into your blog! Blessings!
