Ingredients and Substitutions
Standard muffin tin with 12 slots
- Sheets of nori
- Cooked white rice – you can use any cooked rice that you like, long-grain white rice, jasmine rice, sushi rice, short grain rice, or even brown rice.
- Imitation crab
- Sliced green onions
- Sugar
- Salt
- Rice vinegar
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup
- Sesame seeds
- Sesame oil
Substitutions:
Swap the ketchup and regular mayo for kewpie mayo or spicy Japanese mayonnaise.
Swap imitation crab for some skinless cubed salmon to make salmon sushi bake cups.
You can also easily swap the crab for tuna or shrimp but I like imitation crab for a budget-friendly option.
How to Make Sushi Bake Cups with Imitation Crab
Here’s how to make the crab sushi bake cups recipe step-by-step. (Makes 12 individual servings)
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F.
Cut each of the nori sheets into 4 pieces and place the nori squares in a muffin tin. In a separate large bowl, mix rice with sugar, salt, sesame oil, and a dash of rice vinegar.
Step 2: Spread all of the rice on top of the nori sheets, evenly dividing it among all of the individual muffin compartments. (About 2-3 tablespoons of rice mixture per cup)
Step 3: In a separate small bowl, mix chopped imitation crab, ketchup, and mayonnaise.
Step 4: Sprinkle some sesame seeds over the rice cups.
Step 5: Top with the crab mixture and bake at 350F for 20 minutes.
Step 6: Take the sushi muffins out of the oven, garnish with some green onions, serve, and enjoy!
Storage Instructions:
Fridge: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
To Reheat: Place them in a microwave for 20-30 seconds.
Freezer: I do not recommend freezing these.
