Who is St. Valentine? How did the 14th of February become the celebration of lovers 😍? 💕 What are the best Italian phrases to express love?📌 On February the14th around the year 270 AD, a holy priest called Valentine was executed in Rome following the orders of Emperor Claudius II. During his empire, Rome was involved in atrocious bloody campaigns.📌 The Cruel Claudius had difficulties recruiting soldiers to join his military league; he believed that Roman men were too attached to their wives and families.📌 To resolve this problem, he thought of banning all engagements and marriages in Rome. Valentine, believing the law was unfair, continued to marry lovers in secret, hence defying the Emperor himself and it didn’t end well for him.📌 As a matter of fact, he was discovered and sentenced to death, and a brutal one; he was dragged before the Prefect of Rome, beaten to death with clubs and had his head cut off.👉 Read more here https://lnkd.in/en-i2wi#love #italianlanguage #italiano #languagelearning #italiantutor

Applying mindfulness principles to language learning can significantly enhance the learning experience. Here’s how: ✨ Setting Intentions: Just as in mindfulness you set intentions to focus on your breath and meditation duration, in language learning, begin by setting clear intentions. Determine what aspects of the language you want to focus on, whether it’s vocabulary, grammar, or conversational skills. Decide how long you’ll spend on each session.✨ Reflecting on Outcomes: In mindfulness, you reflect on the desired outcomes like calmness and focus. Similarly, before a language lesson, reflect on what you aim to achieve. It could be a better understanding of a complex grammatical structure or mastering certain phrases.✨ Staying Focused During the Session: In both practices, maintaining focus is key. In meditation, you repeatedly bring your attention back to your breath. In language learning, when you find yourself getting distracted, gently guide it back to the lesson at hand. This could mean refocusing on the text you’re reading, the lesson you’re listening to, or the conversation you’re practicing.✨Mindful Engagement: Just as mindfulness involves being fully present in the moment, apply this to your language learning. Engage with the material actively and mindfully. For example, when learning new words, visualise them, use them in sentences, or relate them to your life.✨ Regular Practice: Just as regular meditation is more effective, regular language practice is crucial. Even short, daily sessions are more beneficial than infrequent, longer sessions.✨Mindful Reflection: After each session, spend a few moments reflecting on what you learned, just as you would reflect post-meditation. Acknowledge your progress and areas for improvement.By integrating these mindfulness principles into your language learning routine, you’ll soon see how it enhances your focus, retention, and overall enjoyment of the learning process.#languagelearning #mindfulnesspractice Raffaella Palumbo (MA - BA Hons - CLTA)

😍 It's National Holiday here in Italy, do you know why?Today is the celebration of Befana 🍭💕😊In Italian tradition, Befana (pronounced [beˈfaːna]) is an elderly woman who bestows gifts upon children throughout Italy on the evening of Epiphany (January 5), similar to the customs of St. Nicholas or Santa Claus.A common belief suggests that her name originates from the Feast of Epiphany (Italian: Festa dell'Epifania). Epifania is a Latin term with Greek roots, signifying "manifestation (of the divinity)." Some propose that Befana has roots in the Sabine/Roman goddess named Strenia.According to popular folklore, Befana visits all Italian children on the night before Epiphany, filling their stockings with sweets and presents if they've been good or gifting a lump of coal or dark candy if they've been naughty. In many economically disadvantaged areas of Italy, particularly rural Sicily, a stick in a stocking was used instead of coal. Regarded as a diligent housekeeper, many believe she sweeps the floor before departing, symbolizing the removal of the year's troubles.Depicted as an old woman riding a broomstick through the air, wearing a black shawl and covered in soot from entering homes through the chimney, Befana is typically portrayed with a smile and carries a bag or basket filled with candy, gifts, or a combination of both to well behaved children, or a lump of coalor dark candy if they the misbehaved throughout the year.Buona befana a tutti!Odessa Sherreard Adam Jacobi MBA Rob McNeill Chase Mellody Sophie Johnson Mellody Lucy Risorto Jennifer Dally Nicole Magnier Frederick Foulston Nicky Regazzoni#italiantraditions #italiantutor#italianculture #italianfolkore #italianlanguage
