Robrecht brother of Floris III count of Holland and brother of Otto IV (Count of Bentheim) were mentioned in a charter in 1172.[1]

Otto I von Bentheim, younger son of graaf Dirk VI van Holland and Sophia von Rheineck. Otto accompanied his mother to the Holy Land in 1173. In 1187 he was named viscount of Coevorden. Otto took part in the Third Crusade, together with his brother Floris III van Holland. In 1196 he fought against the viscount of Coevorden. Otto supported his cousin Willem I van Holland in his successful attempt to gain power over Holland, at the expense of Ada van Holland (countess). He married Alveradis van Cuijck. [2]Children:

  1. Egbert, killed abt. 1210 [2]
  2. Boudewijn I von Bentheim, successor of his father [2]

  4. Gertrud (died. 1240), kanunnikes te Freckenhorst, 1219 abbess of Metelen [2]
  5. Marina, married Ricolt van Ochten. Son of Bertha van Ochten, she was married to Jan I “de Sterke” van Arkel. [2]

Question for anyone interested. Otto and Alveradis married 1172. Confirmation? They have children beginning 1173 (while he is on crusade?). One is Agnes, who came of age 15 or more years later, call it 1190, married Willem I van Teylingen and was the mother of numerous children. Two were Dirk and Willem II, mentioned in the oorkonden in 1205 as brothers (and likely as adults). How is this possible? If they were (necessarily) born by the 1180s, their mother (if Agnes) would need to be born by 1160s. Agnes is widely credited as the mother of most of Willem I's offspring.

Adding to that puzzle, from Ooms

2b. Gerrit van Teijlingen van HeemskerckGeboren in 1175, overleden in 1225. Zoon van Willem van Teylingen en Agniese van Bentheim.

(How is Gerrit born to Agniese who can only be a young child by this time.)

2c. Hugo van TeylingenGeboren 1204. Heer van Heemskerk. Hij was een zoon van Willem van Teylingen en Agniese van Bentheim.(And so Hugo is born to Agniese the year after his mother dies?)
