In this part of the Baldur’s Gate III Walkthrough, we will show you the unfolding of the quest “Escape the Deal”. This is one of the choices of the “Deal with the Devil” quest.

If you want to break your contract with Raphael, you’ll have to find a way to infiltrate his House of Hope. In the Lower City, enter the Elfsong Tavern to find Korrilla, slightly tipsy (pictures1and2). You can take advantage of this to extract some information from her about access to her master’s house (picture3). She then tells you about a diabolist in town capable of opening a portal to the Hells.

picture1

picture3

Then enter the Devil’s Fee, a shop in the northern part of the Lower City (pictures4and5). Chat with Helsik to see what she has for sale (picture6).

picture4
picture5
picture6

Then take a tour of her store, examining the various trophies, in order to understand that the seller is probably the diabolist you are looking for (picture7and8).

picture7
picture8

Then consult her new articles, then ask her how to reach the House of Hope (picture9). You can then buy the information from her for 20,000 gold, halve the amount by passing an Intimidation roll, or offer her an alternative with a Persuasion roll, which triggers the quest “Acquire the Gauntlets for Helsik” (picture10).

picture9
picture10

In any case, Helsik gives you a note concerning the opening of a portal, the necessary ingredients and a grimoire (pictures11,12and13).

picture11
picture12
picture13

Go upstairs to detect a trap, and place a bottle of water on the Thirsty Ward (pictures14and15). Enter the room to find a symbol drawn on the ground (picture16).

picture14
picture15
picture16

You must then place the five ingredients in the correct place on the symbol. Place the skull on the west point (picture17). The infernal marble must be placed in the center of the symbol (picture18).

picture17
picture18

The Coin of Mammon will be placed on the point in front of the chest (picture19). The diamond lands in front of the hanging head of the owlbear (picture20). Finally, the incense will be placed in front of the window (picture21).

picture19
picture20
picture21

By correctly placing these objects, the portal to the House of Hope will open (picture22). Enter it to quickly meet Hope, a prisoner of Raphael (picture23). Agree to help her so she can give you several tips on how to get your contract back. You will also be disguised as a debtor, allowing you to move freely around the devil’s house without arousing suspicion.

picture22
picture23

Don’t go and save Hope straight away, it’s better to collect your contract first, then help the prisoner. Explore the area and go to the Archive to the west (picture24and25). Before entering, you can obtain information from Hope, telling you that the Archivist fears a certain inquisitor, Verillius Receptor (picture26).

picture24
picture25
picture26

In the Archive, inspect the sphere to find your contract (picture27). Unfortunately, the contract is inaccessible at the moment. If you refused Raphael’s offer, but you want to save Prince Orpheus, it will be the Orphic Hammer which will be found in place of your contract. Talk to the Archivist and convince him to give you an Invitation to enter the Boudoir (picture28and29).

picture27
picture28
picture29

If you cannot convince him, do not start a fight, otherwise you risk finding yourself in difficulty for the rest of your exploration. You can reach the Boudoir by going outside the house, in the eastern part of the area (pictures30,31and32).

picture30
picture31
picture32

Take advantage of being in the Archive to steal the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength for the quest “Acquire the Gauntlets for Helsik” (picture33). Note that you can also steal the Amulet of Greater Life if you wish (picture34). In any case, perform these thefts by trying not to get caught, by using an Invisibility spell for example, or by passing rolls during dialogues if you get caught.

picture33
picture34

Now take an interest in the gem in the north corridor, just opposite the entrance to the Boudoir (pictures35and36). By passing a fairly simple Wisdom roll and a much more difficult Arcana one, you can open a secret passage leading to a treasure room containing the Helldusk Helmet, 666 Gold, Mol’s Contract, and a Staff of Spellpower (picture37).

picture35
picture36
picture37

You can now enter the Boudoir (pictures38and39), to meet Haarlep (picture40). You can then attack him directly to recover the Key from Raphael’s Safe from his corpse, as well as the Helldusk Gloves. Or you can share a carnal moment with the demon, asking you to pass several rather difficult rolls to resist its charms.

picture38
picture39
picture40

In any case, press the button under the painting and open Raphael’s safe to read notes (pictures41,42and43). You now know the password to retrieve your contract.

picture41
picture42
picture43

Go back to the Archive, remove the sphere and tear up the contract (pictures44and45). From this moment, all the inhabitants of the House of Hope will be hostile (picture46).

picture44
picture45
picture46

So clear your way to the Boudoir, where you can heal yourself for free if needed in the pool (picture47). From this moment, you will be able to free Hope from her prison: see the quest “Save Hope“.

picture47

As soon as this is done, go to the Foyer, to the south of the house (pictures48and49). As you try to leave, Raphael, Korrilla and Yurgir will block your way. No need to try to reason with Korrilla, but you can still stun her instead of kill her during the encounter if you wish. This doesn’t change much in the outcome, however.

picture48
picture49

On the other hand, it is possible thanks to a Persuasion roll to convince Yurgir to join you against Raphael (picture50). If you do this and Yurgir survives the fight, he will help you in the final battle.

picture50

In any case, you must fight Raphael (picture51). The devil is very powerful and has a significant number of life points. Try to eliminate his minions first to concentrate all your attacks on him afterwards.

picture51

Once the threat is eliminated, Hope thanks you and you obtain the Gloves of Soul Catching, a legendary item (picture52). Search Raphael’s corpse to recover the Helldusk Armour (picture53).

picture52
picture53

Before leaving the House, and if you have convinced Yurgir to help you, do not forget to talk to him to make him an ally for later (pictures54and55).
