There’s nothing like that first beautiful Spring day, is there? The sense of renewal and rejuvenation, and that welcome chance to shake off the Winter blues. Sunshine, blue sky, birdsong, the scent of blossom on the breeze, I think it’s such an inspiring season for new ideas, both in the garden and in the home. And (because who doesn’t love a good quote round up), it’s also an excellent opportunity to curate a collection of quotes about Spring. Regular readers will know I’m a big fan of seasonal sayings so, without further ado, here are my 30 favourite Spring quotes for your delectation and delight.

30 quotes about Spring for every occasion
This collection of 30 Spring quotes completes my seasonal quartet alongside my 30 inspirational Autumn quotes, 30 inspiring Winter quotes, and 30 best Summer quotes. And as usual, Google and Pinterest were both very helpful, if somewhat repetitive, sources. It seems the Internet is awash with a plethora of positive Spring quotes for almost every occasion! Anyway, let’s dive in and see what people say about Spring and the joys of Springtime.
Inspirational quotes about Spring and new beginnings
Spring is associated with rebirth and new beginnings, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s time to come out of our dormant Winter torpor and hibernation, ready to embrace the new growing season. And I don’t only mean in the garden, although regular readers will know all about that from my monthly garden updates. Here are 5 Spring quotes that reflect that emergence.
“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” – Anonymous
“That is one good thing about this world… There are always sure to be more Springs.” – L M Montgomery
“Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer.” – Anita Krizzan
“Spring is the fountain of love for thirsty Winter.” – Munia Khan
“The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.” – Josiyah Martin
Short Spring quotes
Sometimes you just need something short and snappy, that epitomises what you want to say. Here are 5 fabulous short sayings, perfect if you’re looking for Spring quotes for Instagram too. I feel Tolstoy’s is particularly apposite for me right now.
“The deep roots never doubt Spring will come.” – Marty Rubin
“Spring is Nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’”– Robin Williams
“No Winter lasts forever; no Spring skips its turn.” – Hal Borland
“Spring is when life’s alive in everything.” – Christina Rosetti
“Spring is the time of plans and projects.” – Leo Tolstoy
Famous quotes about Spring
The next 5 quotes about Spring are literary ones, and Wordsworth’s is probably the most famous of them. But I couldn’t leave out Samwise Gamgee’s impassioned plea to inspire Frodo. One of the most inspiring moments in The Lord of the Rings books and films, I think.
“Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It’ll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they’ll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields… and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?” – J.R.R. Tolkien
“When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” – William Wordsworth
“It’s a Spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want to – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” – Mark Twain
“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The Spring will come.” – Robert H. Schuller
“Now every field is clothed with grass, and every tree with leaves; now the woods put forth their blossoms, and the year assumes its gay attire.” – Virgil
Spring flower quotes
You might recognise a couple of these Spring flower quotes from my collection of Garden Quotes and Sayings collection, but I couldn’t leave them out. I think of Swinburne every time I walk into our orchard.
“Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil.” – Bishop Reginald Heber
“Blossom by blossom the Spring begins.” – Algernon Charles Swinburne
“The Earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Never yet was a springtime, when the buds forgot to bloom.” – Margaret Elizabeth Sangster
“Always it’s Spring and everyone’s in love and flowers pick themselves.” – E.E. Cummings
“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.” – Pablo Neruda
Funny Spring quotes
No collection of Spring quotes would be complete without at least a couple of quotes about Spring cleaning. All hail the dust bunnies in my house, long will they reign, I’d much rather be outside, working on my Spring rolls…
“In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.” – Mark Twain
“The Spring cleaning fairy quit. We now hail the dust bunny.” – Anonymous
“Spring cleaning, you say? Yeah, no, I tried that last year.” – Anonymous
“Finally my Winter fat is gone. Now I have Spring rolls.” – Anonymous
Springtime quotes
There are always a few quotes that don’t seem to fit into any category aren’t there? So, I’ve grouped these 4 quotes about Spring under the Springtime label. They all encapsulate what it feels like at this time of year but, for me, Ruth Stout says, “Hello Spring” the best.
“You make me feel so young, you make me feel so Spring has sprung.” – Frank Sinatra
“Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.” – Gustav Mahler
“Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of Spring?” – Neltje Blanchan
“I love Spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden.” – Ruth Stout
My favourite Spring quote
It’s clear that Spring is a popular season for many of us, the weather gets warmer and all the flowers start blooming. But also there’s Valentine’s Day and Easter, when you have the perfect excuse to eat chocolate for days on end 🙂 However, as a gardener, I have to agree with this fellow horticulturalist and renowned author:
“In the Spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” – Margaret Atwood
That for me sums up the beauty of Spring. Nothing beats the smell of the soil clinging to my hands after a day’s hard graft in our garden. Nor the delicate fragrance of a bunch of freshly picked daffodils from our orchard. Not forgetting the sheer joy of being able to spend more time outdoors in my happy place. I’ve written frequently about Nature being beneficial for both mental and physical health, and there’s really no better time or place to experience it than in a garden in Springtime. 🙂
Which of my 30 quotes about Spring is your favourite? Have you got a Spring saying that I’ve not included here? Are you a Springtime fan? What do you love most about Spring?
